BIG SUNSPOT: The sun is showing signs of life. Sunspot 1029 emerged over the weekend, and it is crackling with B- and C-class solar flares. The active region’s magnetic polarity identifies it as a member of new Solar Cycle 24.
If its growth continues apace, sunspot 1029 could soon become the biggest sunspot of 2009. Check http://spaceweather.com for animations and updates.

Spanish schedule B09

Hi:
As I reported the ADXB (DX Association Barcelona) just upload to your website the first version of its Schedule List in Spanish for the winter period (B09).
This update contains so far the new frequencies of 13 international broadcasters in their programs in Spanish.

QSL-Kalender 2010

Seit 5 Jahren gibt der RMRC zusammen mit der ADDX den QSL-Kalender heraus, einen farbigen Hochglanz Wandkalender (A4 quer, engl., ) als Non-Profit Aktion zur Unterstützung der DX-Clubs. Der Kalender enthält viele seltene und dekorative QSL-Karten von Radiosendern aus aller Welt, z.T. von Sendern, die schon lange nicht mehr existieren. Titelbild ist zu sehen auf der RMRC-Homepage www.rmrc.de

Der QSL-Kalender 2010 ist zur Auslieferung bereit. Wer einen zugesandt haben möchte, bitte melden. Die Auflage ist begrenzt. Der Kalender kostet 15 Euro incl. Porto in Europa.

Family Radio tests

Family Radio plans tests via Madagascar
Family Radio plans some test transmissions from the RNW relay station in Madagascar starting Tuesday 27 October 2009. The duration (in days) isn’t known yet. The following transmissions in English are planned:

* 1200-1300 UTC on 21480 kHz (azimuth 55 degrees) 250 kW
* 1700-1800 UTC on 9515 kHz (azimuth 265 degrees) 50 kW

Gutes preiswertes Essen und Trinken, WLAN, Webcam und Chat von der Party. Begrenzte Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten vorhanden.

Wir werden an diesem Abend zwei Langdrahtantennen aufbauen sowie den Antenenverteiler und gemeinsam essen und trinken und die St.-Helena Sendung hören.

Eingeladen sind alle RMRC-Mitglieder und alle DXer aus dem Rhein-Main-Gebiet. Wer von weiter anreisen will wegen Übernachtung unbedingt anmelden. Mitzubringen sollte man Empfänger, Kopfhörer und gute Laune.

‘The History of the development of radio from 600BC to the early broadcast days’ is the title of a wonderful, illustrated website put together by Greg Whiter, VK3CA.

In six parts, it chronicles the many discoveries and inventions that have led to the development of radio as we know it today.

All the ususal suspects are here – Samuel Morse, Michael Faraday, Heinrich Hertz, Nikola Tesla, Reginald Fessenden and of course Guglielmo Marconi – plus many other not so well-known names.
