RTL 234 Khz close down 31 December 2022

Sad news this lunchtime that RTL will be switching off their giant Long Wave transmitter as the New Year dawns. 234LW began in 1933 and the BBC tried hard to stop it, calling it a pirate! In the 50s, RTL shunted the English programmes off to the 208m MW slot, but RTL continues in French covering most of Europe. Now they claim they can no longer afford the 6 MegawattHour power bill that the 2,000 kilowatt LW transmitter draws. Un Grande Hote. (Maybe they will sign it over to me???)
