Irish pirate closedowns
Happy New Year to all from Pirate.ie, the online archive of Irish pirate radio. On New Year’s Eve 1988, dozens of pirate stations across Ireland fell silent in advance of the new broadcasting legislation to licence independent radio. Many of the pirates were audible to listeners on the west coast of the UK and occasionally further afield. You can listen here to dozens of recordings of that historic day in Irish radio: https://pirate.ie/archive/tags/1988-closedowns/
