Happy New Year to all from Pirate.ie, the online archive of Irish pirate radio. On New Year’s Eve 1988, dozens of pirate stations across Ireland fell silent in advance of the new broadcasting legislation to licence independent radio. Many of the pirates were audible to listeners on the west coast of the UK and occasionally further afield. MARCONI RADIO INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATES ITS 40th ANNIVERSARY ON 4TH JANUARY 2026

Please be advised that Marconi Radio International (MRI) will be on the air this weekend as follows:

4th January 2026, from 1600 to 1900 UTC on 7700 kHz
(alternative frequency: 7400 kHz)

Although there will be no special programming (however, some vintage programmes will be aired), the aim of this broadcast is to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our station, which went on the air for the first time on 4th January 1986.

RADIO NOVA INTERNATIONAL TEST TRANSMISSION UPDATE
I wish to apologise for the non appearance of Radio Nova International on 6140Khz. The programme feed to the transmitter in Junglinster has gone down and the telecom company could not restore it until after the holiday period. New dates for these tests will appear here as soon as they are confirmed. Until then enjoy the programmes from our colleagues at Radio Gloria on 6140Khz. Happy new year!
