Bill Lyons then drives to Saltash and collects the 1494 kHz rig from the closed down Radio Argus Plymouth service, and brings it back to Jane’s new place where the broadcasts are to come from. He is to then walk away from the station for a while.

Dear FRS Friend,

Last week saw the final of the 3-in-a-row Summer Splash broadcasts.
However: that broadcast took place on 7700//5790 but not on 6185.
Just like in week 1 & 2 (July 23rd/ 30th) 6185 should have go out but unforeseen circumstances prevented this.

Sunday August 13th 6185 will go out making up for last week.
Programmes from Peter Verbruggen and Jan van Dijk will go out between 21:00- 23:00 CEST.

+ GBR. Cornwall. The mob led by Pete Davis go round the Argus sites, one by one, smashing up rigs and tearing down aerials. They end up at the Camborne studios where Simon was and attack him and smash up anything resembling a rig [including the 103.1 FM rig]. He later dies in hospital of a heart attack. The mob is arrested but charges are later dropped. DJs had been trying to catch the gang as they took the rigs off one by one and were too late when they realised they were actually going for Simon’s place, something several of them found it hard to forgive themselves for. By 13:00 Radio Argus Cornwall is off the air.

Simon was a good guy, he had joined back in 1985 having heard the first broadcast and told us he had been an engineer with the IBA. He certainly knew his way around rigs. With his passing things never really recovered in Cornwall as there was nobody with the know-how or experience although there was a determination to continue for several years and a few London rigs ended up going down on the train to help out.

Radio Jackie and Radio Free London get the main part of the article, On Jackie, the programmes are recorded in a garden shed, while on RFL they are recorded in Ken Meyers’ bedroom. The paper describes how an instal up a tower block takes place, and how two car batteries are used to run both the reel-to-reel player and the 92.0 FM rig. John Dawson features in the picture. Other stations mentioned are Radio Utopia, Radio Woodstock and Radio Invicta.

The 1984 stations would have been experiencing some raids from the start of the new broadcasting act, but I have no details at this time, so any of those dates would also be helpful.
