10 Jun. 1980 GBR. Leicester. 103.8 FM. First ever Radio Alice broadcast takes place. Over the next few days several DJs are to join the station, including Jane Nelson.
10 Jun. 1983 GBR Twickenham. 1503 kHz MW. On air 7 days a week, Sovereign Radio is on air today
10 Jun. 1984
+ GBR. SW London. 1323 kHz MW. On air 7 days a week, Radio Jackie is on air today
+ GBR. London. 92.5 FM. On air 7 days a week, LWR is on air today
10 Jun. 1987 GBR. Colchester. 90.9 FM. Another casualty gets sacked from Freedom Overflow. Larry the Doorknob is dismissed for ‘being a W-nker!’ The station then closes, due to moving studio premises.
And that’s it for today, once again any details of start and end dates of the 24/7 stations mentioned in the comments, such as Skyline, Horizon and JFM, will see them added.
…And any other stations, from anywhere in the world, provided they are unlicensed, are welcome as well. This group is only for land-based stations in the 1970s and 80s, but if you want to contribute outside of that time and include offshore, you will of course, be credited, just as everyone who has so far in the comments on this group. Lets compile a timeline that recognises the efforts that went (and in some cases is still going) into running these stations…
